ABOUT THE PROJECT

Crowdheritage

TITLE: CROWDHERITAGE

DURATION: Sept.2018 - Feb.2020

PROGRAMME: CEF-EUROPEANA-GENERIC SERVICES

ONLINE PLATFORM: CROWDHERITAGE.EU

DESCRIPTION

CrowdHeritage is an European pilot project that will result in the final development of a
participatory platform around digitized heritage.

Aims

The lack of granular and rich descriptive metadata highly affects the searchability and usability of the
digital content stored in museums, libraries and archives. In this context, crowdsourcing can offer a
great opportunity for improving the metadata quality of digital cultural content in a scalable way,
while at the same time engaging different user communities (professionals, students, passionate...)
and raising awareness about cultural heritage assets.

Activities
- development of an open platform on which a very large public audience can participate to
- 6 different crowdsourcing campaigns on Music, Fashion, Sport, Cities & Landscapes.
Each campaign is curated by a partner and allows the discovery of several collections of digitized
items from cultural institutions accessible on Europeana.
The 2 campaigns curated by MCA include a pilot with Educational communities

Through these collections, users can either suggest new annotations or descriptions about the item,
either validate or not the existing ones in a user-friendly and attractive way.
The most active contributors will receive Amazon coupons of 100€, 75€ or 50€.

Each campaign is opened for 2 month and are accessible thanks to this link: crowdheritage.eu .
Here’s the description and calendar of the 6 campaigns:

- Catwalk colours, curated by EFHA: Validate the automatically extracted colours of
the outfits in these catwalk photos from three iconic couture collections in the EFHA
archives.
Early musical instruments, curated by FMC: Use your talent to tag the
instruments you see in the picture!
Representations of famous composers, curated by FMC: Identify famous
composers depicted in the picture such as Liszt, Bach, Beethoven or Mozart!
